As above, I currently have 2x8GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz. I was thinking of going for 32GB total so do i just get another 2x8GB to match what I have or can I go for something faster than 1600MHz?

DDR3 3300*(*OC)/ 3200*/ 3100*/ 3000*/ 2800*/ 2666*/ 2600*/ 2400*/ 2200*/ 2133*/ 2000*/ 1866*/ 1600/ 1333/ 1066 are the compatible RAM speeds.

Are you getting close to exceeding 16GB RAM usage with just gaming?

I am using 1866MHz RAM with a MSI PC Mate Z97/4690K i5. It set the speed automatically.

If I doubled my RAM amount(which I should) I would buy the exact same modules. 1866MH DDR3 CL11 1.5V.

Hi,

It is better to get either another 16GB 1600Mhz or 32GB higher than 1600.

Reason: Lets assume you bought RAMs higher than 1600Mhz and installed them. Then their speed will drop to match the 1600Mhz, so getting higher rams is pointless unless you get a complete 32GB with speed higher than 1600Mhz.

Regards,

No reason for 32GB in gaming. You won't notice any difference. If you must buy more ram, you need to get the exact same sticks for compatibility reasons. Sure, you may be able to manually adjust speed, CAS, but it may not be as stable as getting all the same sticks.

I haven't had issue running 2(2x4GB) kits in my main rig for several years. I have also run dual sets of 2x8GB with no issue. Im sure its possible to have incompatibility with the same speccd kits, Im just saying I haven't seen it yet. I wouldn't deter you from buying the same speccd sticks from the same manufacturer...
