Hi Guys,

So here's my quagmire:

Have a decent system that's about 3 years old. Here's the specs:
Intel DX79SR mobo
2 x 500gb Samsung 840 SSDs - Raid 1
2 x 1.5tb Seagate Drives - Raid 1
2 x 3tb HTS Drives
64gb DDR3 Ram
And last but not least...
Gigabyte GTX 680

I play Battlefield 1, which I'm sure most players know loves to challenge graphics cards.

So couple options I'm looking for advice on:
1) The most cost effective option is to SLI a used GTX 680. I've found used 680s for around $150.
2) The new GTX 1000 series have some decent options. The 1070 can be purchased for less than $400, and I could sell my other 680 to recoup about $150...so total cost would be $250 out of pocket.
3) I'm tempted to pull the trigger on that 1080 just because it's bad ass, but that'd put me in the hole $450.

I had a few configuration questions as well:
1) Am I able to SLI the 680 with any of the GTX cards in the 1000 series (preferably the 1060, 1070, or even 1080? Would SLI'ing a brand new 1080 w/ a 3 year old 680 even be worth it?
2) I'm concernd this may turn into a black hole for money. If I get the 1080...would my DX79SR mobo be able to handle it, or should I count on upgrading that too? Of course, if I got the 1080, I'd have to push it, which would likely require me to upgrade to a 4K monitor setup...which is another $500+ probably.

Thanks for any advice guys :)

I wouldn't bother with the 680 SLI. The performance still wouldn't be as good as a 1070 or a 1080 and you will only have 2gb of vram which limits you. You can't SLI your 680 with any of the 10 series cards either. You won't have to replace your mobo with your gpu upgrade.

The resolution you run or plan to run can be a deciding factor too. Personally for games like BF1 I would take a 1070 or 1080 with a high refresh rate 1440p monitor over a 4k display at 60hz.
