can i play directx 9,10,11,12 games on rx 480

Solution
Can you play those games? Yes.

Performance depends on the rest of your system and the actual games being played. I have an RX 480 in one of my rigs and it handles everything I through it easily.

  • It all sounds pretty good to me. I see nothing wrong with your parts list, aside from putting really pretty RAM on an ugly motherboard.

If you're talking about compatibility issues, then yes, the RX480 will definitely run DX9-12, as well as OpenGL and Vulkan. I doubt you'd come across anything else. Maybe you have the original NFSU which is DX8? Should still work. Most games played today are either based on DX9 or DX11, so you'll be fine.

I see you asked about "any performance issues like fps dropping any lags". Yes there might be, but that's the same with any video card. Don't expect Battlefield 1 to run at a buttery smooth 200fps at 4k on true ultra, but I'd certainly be expecting 200fps+ in CS:GO and Overwatch at 1080p. Gotta stay reasonable.

I'll end with this: everyone I know who has bought an RX480 has either returned it or RMA'ed for refund. Let that be a warning to you.

  • Nothing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

BTW, I have an RX 480 and have not returned or exchanged it. It performs quite well.

  • I've been very happy with my XFX RX480 8Gb. Some people will tell you that 8Gb is overkill, but I stuck to my stubborn ways and went with it anyways, and have encountered no issues with new games at 1080p ultra @ 60+ fps.

If the budget allows, I'd definitely spring for the 8GB model, since it doesn't cost much more than the 4GB model, and some games have a nasty habit of eating VRAM for breakfast, then not relinquishing unused VRAM when it doesn't need it (cough shadows of mordor cough).

Something that's considered overkill now, will become just adequate in a couple years, give or take a couple years, depending on use case scenario.

XFX coolers are also definitely better than they used to be. I'd take the gamble between XFX, ASUS, MSI, or Sapphire Tech for RX480's. As a hobbyist overclocker, the Powercolor and Gigabyte cards are just not trustworthy enough.
