I was playing a graphics intensive game and my computer randomly shut off and I thought the psu was broken but when I took it apart I realized the computer starts only when I take out the graphics card. Does this mean it is broken or can I do something to fix the computer?

I had a gtx 780 in this build, I realized fully that the graphics card was broken since the computer wouldnt turn on when it was plugged in. So I went to best buy and bought a new graphics card since i needed a new one anyway and the computer works fine now.
But I have one question, since this happened to my last graphics card is my new one at risk? Or was it just because the old graphics card was old (had it for 4 years)

I'm still not fully convinced that the graphics card was at fault. What is the manufacturer and model # of your power supply? What are the rest of your specs, including your new graphics card?

In my opinion, the issue could be the power supply having insufficient power or unreliable power delivery. The issue could also have been your GTX 780. Speaking of which, when did you purchase the GTX 780? I ask because it officially release in May of 2013. Many vendors have a three year warranty period on it. If the issue is indeed the GPU, I strongly encourage you to reach out to the vendor and submit a warranty claim. When they replace your card, you can then sell it to recoup part of the cost of the new one.

Addendum: I just re-read your response, and see that you already stated that you owned it for four years. But since the card hasn't even been on the market for that long, chance are that you've over-estimated. I still recommend that you contact the vendor and inquire if it's covered.

Thank you so much, I never really thought of that. I think I bought it on ebay, and this screenshot ( https://i.imgur.com/EYLwmDO.png) of my purchase history shows this, I think this may be the card or the motherboard. But either way I did make a mistake, I bought it like 2 years ago almost 3 now. That might be the ebay listing for the motherboard because it doesn't say 780 but the graphics card looks like this (https://i.imgur.com/4TGOPku.jpg) So I know its a 780. But I guess I haven't had it for 3 years what do I do to do a return?

EDIT: This was my pcpartpicker long ago, i switched out windows 7 for 8 but i think thats all thats different http://pcpartpicker.com/list/gTdzFT
