Hello there,
I have an old Asrock H61M-VG3 with a i3 2120. I found this combo for a really cheap price.
I have a problem with the on-board sound card, which doesn't output any audio nor detects it when I plug an audio jack in.
With Windows 10 compatible driver which it downloads from Windows Update, only the front panel audio ports are detected. When I install the realtek audio driver I downloaded from the Asrock website, the realtek utility application sees the back audio ports, but still nothing happens when I plug the audio jack in. No audio is output.

I checked if it worked under ubuntu too. I started the live distro, but only the front audio panel ports get detected. And sadly there's no audio either. I went to the audio properties and started the test but no audio comes through.

The speakers are fully operational. I tested them on my laptop.

I've read on other websites that quite a few people have the same problem with this chipset (not necessarily the same make - found one case with a gigabyte mobo with the same chipset).

Some solved the problem by installing the intel igpu drivers first, the discrete gpu drivers then (at the time Windows 7 was the latest os).
I tried this solution too, but there are no Win10 compatible drivers for the intel hd 2000 i can download from the intel website. I let Windows 10 download them from Windows Update, yet again, unfortunately the problem was still there.

Does anybody know by any chance if there's a solution to this? The fact that others had the same problem with the same chipset makes me think (and hope) there is a solution and that it's not just a defective motherboard

If you're mobo is good and normal, possibly the problem is the drivers compatibility. But check first other possible solution like the bios settings of the audio if not disabled. I recommend to set in manufacturers default. If not solve try to open the system case and check manual the audio controller chip, clean the pins connected to mobo. Then get also the chipset number then paste it in google search to find exactly the correct drivers on it.
