Currently I have a Xeon processor w3565 @ 3.20 GHz in my Z400
Specs are as follows
Performance
# of Cores 4
# of Threads 8
Processor Base Frequency 3.20 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 3.46 GHz
Cache 8 MB SmartCache
Bus Speed 4.8 GT/s QPI
# of QPI Links 1
TDP 130 W
VID Voltage Range 0.800V-1.225V
I'm looking to put a w3690 in it with the following specs
Performance
# of Cores 6
# of Threads 12
Processor Base Frequency 3.46 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 3.73 GHz
Cache 12 MB SmartCache
Bus Speed 6.4 GT/s QPI
# of QPI Links 1
TDP 130 W
VID Voltage Range 0.800V-1.375V
Will this work and will the upgrade be noticeable? Concerned about the bus speed will my motherboard be able to handle this? Never upgraded a processor before and want to make sure it would work before buying it.
Currently have have HP motherboard SP#586968-001 which is a 1333 MHZ system board with intel X58 express chipset.
Would an i7 be better for gaming? Or should I stick with Xeon? I know Xeon is what we use at work for cad machines... and I have an i7 in my z200 and it's slow as molasses, but I think that is more about my ram and gpu than the processor...
Trying to upgrade sons machine for Christmas any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sophie
