I have a computer which I use for browsing the internet and playing games. Purchased a cheap 10 dollar wifi USB adapter, which was pretty skimpy in most areas. Sometimes, when I would play Team Fortress 2, I would get random ping spikes with the USB adapter that I would never get with my old prebuilt computer (3 in 1). My router is about 15 feet from my computer (NOT RUNNING AN ETHERNET CABLE) and the connection is not the best. My question is: Should I buy a USB adapter or a PCIE adapter, and does it make a difference? I would rather not open my computer and put a wifi card into the pcie slot, I would rather use USB, but if I'm sacrificing quality I might as well just open it up and put it in.
My internet up there is around 6 mb/s on my phone, and I really don't need much more, but the adapter gives me around .6 mb/s when downloading from Steam (10 times less). Would a better wifi adapter solve the problem? And should I buy a pcie adapter or Usb and could you recommend one in that price range, Thank you.

The only PCIe adapters that are superior are the high end PCIe, otherwise USB and PCIe are equivalent.

Download THIS free version of the wireless analyzer inSSIDer and run it to see what wireless signals your computer recognizes.

One big advantage of USB is that you can put it on up to a 10 foot USB extension cable to move it to a better location than behind your computer.

What is your router model?

Yes but is PCIE higher quality for same or lower price?DOes it even make a difference whether it is USB or PCIE? Also I am not sure whether I am connected at 2.4 or 5 ghz because I don;t know how to check; I just want a reliable connection at max bandwidth I can get from up there.
