Mobo change Windows reinstall needed?

Hi guys,

I'm just thinking about, if I change my Gigabyte B150M-D3H mobo to a Gigabyte Z170M-D3H one, do I really need to reinstall the windows? Both mobo are from the same company, and same category (D3H), just the chipsets are different.

If it is retail, then it should work with no problem.

It's still different hardware. However, what type of Windows key do you have? OEM or retail? Some say that if you just connect the hard drive, it should go through. Best way to see s to try it yourself. Especially in Windows 10 since it is tied to your account.

Thanks for fast answer. I have a retail one, its a Windows 8.1 64bit Home. I bought it I think a year ago, so there are a lot of stuff would be reinstalled. I will try to change and if not works, than no other way, I will reinstall it.
