Hi,
I’m currently in the process of planning out an upgrade to my CCTV system and am looking at adding audio recording to it. Currently, all the cameras are IP cams recording to NVRs, the cams don't have audio capabilities so here is an outline of my current plan:
- Mount 10x CCTV RCA microphones around the building
- The RCA on each mic will be converted to a stereo 3.5mm plug
- Each 3.5mm plug will be connected to each 3.5mm socket on the computer and recorded to a different file
So far everything is fine. I can assign each 3.5mm jack as a mic/line in device using Realtek HD Audio Manager (RHDAM) and I have software to record separate multiple inputs simultaneously. The only problem is I don’t have enough jacks (only 3 on the mobo) so obviously I am going to need sound card(s). However, I will need to be able to assign each jack on the sound card as an input (none I have looked at say I can do this using their software and I’m not banking on the sound cards jacks appearing in RHDAM so I can assign them as inputs there).
So, the questions are:
1. Can I have sound card(s) and the mobo ‘sound card’ working together properly?
2. Will the additional sound cards need to be identical?
3. What sound cards would you recommend for this task? (Need a total of 10 additional jacks). USB sound cards/adapters are fine as long as they don’t sacrifice audio quality, will work alongside the mobo ‘sound card’, and I can assign the jacks as inputs.
4. If I can’t assign the sound card jacks as inputs using the sound card software, will I be able to do it in RHDAM?
I have already read through this thread (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/175043-28-soundcards-once) so I’m not the first person to successfully have multiple sound cards (phew). If anyone has a suggestion for a better way of doing this then please let me know.
