Games are lagging after CPU Upgrade

Hello I recently upgraded my CPU from Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6300 to Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8400 and also upgraded my motherboard from Samsung Zeus 60 r 1.07g to Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo (Rev 2.0) because of previous motherboard's lack of LGA 775 CPU Support and processor started to fail.
Before this upgrade, this system had 3GB DDR2 533MHz RAM installed as Zeus 60 r 1.07g supports maximum RAM of 8GB DDR2 with 4 DDR2 Memory Expansion Slots. And I installed them before as 3 x 1GB sticks.

After the upgrade, I had to stop using one 1GB DDR2 RAM stick as G41M Combo also supports DDR2 RAM max to 8GB but it has only two DDR2 RAM Memory Expansion Slots.
So, the new RAM became DDR2 2GB 533MHz. After this system upgrade and installing all up to date system drivers, speaker drivers, graphics drivers and a fresh clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I noticed performance of games I want to play on this system (such as Need For Speed Most Wanted 2, Grand Theft Auto IV) became poor than before and also started to lag seriously. In old system (before this upgrade) with super old motherboard and extremely low end E6300 CPU, those games ran without any unplayable lags. Note that sometimes it lagged but not so seriously. I like to know why new upgraded system is lagging than previous system configuration?
Is the decrease of RAM from a 1GB causing this lag?

The processor I used to upgrade this system is reported as dead by a PC Repair shop in my area, but it is working well and they may lied me as new Gigabyte motherboard recognized it very well.
This post shows about it:
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3202230/intel-core-duo-e8400-working.html

This system information before the upgrade:
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6300 1.86GHz 2M Cache
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256 Bit
RAM: 3GB DDR2 533MHz
PSU: I-REX Power 500W Dual V 2.3 Semi Modular ATX Power Supply
No any CPU Coolers, just cooled with one chassis fan which is located close to CPU Heatsink.
Motherboard: Samsung Zeus 60 r 1.07g (Rev MT 1.3)
Windows Experience Index Score: 4.7
(Lowest sub score given for extremely old E6300 CPU - It is 4.7).

This system information after the upgrade:
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8400 3.00GHz 6M Cache
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256 Bit
RAM: 2GB DDR2 533MHz
PSU: I-REX Power 500W Dual V 2.3 Semi Modular ATX Power Supply
Intel Stock CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo (Rev 2.0)
Windows Experience Index Score: 5.5
(Lowest sub score given for 2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM - It is 5.5).

So, what I understand is the decrease of RAM causing this lag.....
If not, tell me what is the problem for lagging of games even using same settings.
Games should run better on E8400 than E6300 CPU!
I know this power supply is crappy, but system worked fine before this upgrade.

Please tell me what went wrong and possible other upgrades that can be taken to prevent system from lagging during medium level gaming.

Thanks in Advance.

Running Win7 on only 2gb and then gaming is not a good idea. 3Gb would have helped a bit but i wouldn't like the outcome of the games you're playing with no less than 3Gb preferably 4 (2x 2gb). Since you're a gb short, disable Win7 aero theme to basic, that will free up some memory a bit.

Also check your cpu temps using a program like realtemp just to make sure your cpu isn't throttling due to overheating.

Yes. I already does it. I change Aero theme to Windows Classic (not Basic) and games are even lagging........No any success....CPU Overheating warning enabled in 70 C. But it isn't overheating......Before the upgrade, system ran only with a chassis fan.......Now there are two fans including new stock CPU cooler came with E8400 and can't determine why this lagging even occurs......... :(

Increasing System Page file to 4096MB worked to get rid of lagging most..........And I like to know what hardware I need to be upgraded to play games I mentioned before in high settings? What should I upgrade first? (After 4GB RAM Upgrading) GPU or PSU?

Thanks again. I will keep this in mind. And I finally like to know if I want to play Grand Theft Auto V with high settings in this system, is upgrading CPU to Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550 good (After upgrading to GTX 750 Ti) ?

You'll benefit more in games recommending a quad core that's true. GTA5 is one of them yes, it will run on a dual core but better on a quad. FarCry 4 is another one but with this game, it wont even open on dual cores without HT.
