Hello Guys,

I'm working on gigantic images in photoshop with pbs format.

Pixels size are around 160.000 X 300.000 and when saved on hard disk is 4.7Gb.

But my laptop takes more than 20 hours to save it on hard disk.

The images also contains a lot of layers, and when i give a command in photoshop it takes 2, 3 even 5 minutes to esecute it.

I stopped to work on it as I decided I need a new desktop for it. But when I will resume my work, i estimateed the images size may increase over 10 Gb.

The Laptop I'm using at the moment is a DELL INSPIRION 15-3521 (Pentium 2127U 1.9 GHz / RAM 4GB / HD 500GB / Win 8.1 64 bit)

This is the new build I decided to buy for working on my project:

I7-6850K
Asus X99 STRIX
Corsair Vengeance DDR4 128GB 3000GHz
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060
Noctua NH-D15S Cooler
Samsung 950 Pro NVMe SSD M.2 512 GB
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 2 TB
Phanteks Eclipse P400S Midi-Tower Window and Soundproof
Corsair CX750M PSU Modular - 750 Watt

Budget is around 2.800 Euro.

I will use this Desktop only to work on Photoshop Large PBS files (No Gaming / No Cad / No Video / No 3D)

Do you think is a well balanced machine? Would you change something? Can I change something to keep same performance and saving some money?

My goal is to reduce drastically the file saving time which at the moment is more than 20 hours...

Thanks a lot for your suggestions,

Ciao,

Kel

Solution
Dual processors is perfectly fine, but adds to the complexity of the hardware. Just keep in mind that the LGA2011 has quad channel memory, so for dual processors you need matching sets of four modules for each processor. That fills all eight slots on most (affordable) LGA2011-3 x 2 motherboards.

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2620 V4 2.1GHz 8-Core Processor (€496.99 @ Amazon Italia)

Consider a Xeon with more cores over the i7-6850. The E5-2630 has a very respectable turbo speed of 3.1GHz to go along with its 20 processing threads. Also, look toward the Samsung 960 Pro over the 950.

In this regard, you can scale back a bit and still have a good performing workstation. The E3 below will give you i7 like performance (8 processing threads), but the chipset will limit you to 64GB memory. That would look similar to the build below.

Hello,

thank you very much for your help.

I really like the first configuration you posted, and your explanation.

I did some internet search and I came up with the idea to build a machine with dual processor.

Than the configuration you posted will change with 2 Processors E5-2620v4, instead of Xeon E5-2630.

Motherboard will also change, and total cost will be 388 higher.

By the way I don't need to buy Optical Drive, and I can find some of the components with a cheaper price than amazon.it in a couple of shops in Italy.

So final budget will increase about 100/150 euro.

What do you think about this solution with 2 processors. Does make it sense to you?

Thanks,
Kel
