Hi Guys, long time lurker here. I've been reading so much but decided to make my own topic.

I need a new machine ASAP for 3DS MAX rendering in RT and sometimes through CPU if needed.
I have been using only max with vray advanced and not an expert in components.
I am a UK architect building and rendering my projects, budget £1500-£2000max.

So much to write down about what I have read but really need help, I understand the most important thing is the GPU and high cuda core count. The problem is I don't know to go for 1 x GPU or 2 or perhaps I have a computer built with one then add another later.

People also seem to dislike the GTX 10** range in favour of older cards!

I think with my budget I may get 1 x titan or 2 x 1070 if this is not possible will one card be fine if so which. I think files will be bigger than 4GB so that rules a lot of cards out.

Air cooled seams cheaper and ok for my build and maybe an I7 CPU. Other than this I really don't know what to spec, here is a build an online builder suggested:

CPU : 1 x Intel i7 6700 - (4 x 4.0 GHZ) - Skylake
Motherboard : 1 x Asus Z170 PRO GAMING (Intel Z170) - 6xUSB 3.1/2xUSB 2.0
Graphics Card : 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 - 8 GB - (SLI) - (VR-READY)

Computer Case : 1 x Premium Black All Metal ATX Tower Case
Hard Drive #1 : 1 x 512GB Samsung PM961 M.2 SSD, Read 3000MB/s, Write 1150MB/s - Silent
CPU Heatsink : 1 x Arctic Cooling Freezer 11i - Low Noise
Hard Drive #2 : 1 x 1 TB Seagate (1000 GB) SATA-III HDD 7200 RPM 64MB
Power Supply : 1 x EVGA 850W (Modular) PSU - Low Noise
Memory : 1 x Corsair 16GB Vengeance LPX 2133MHz (2x8GB) - Lifetime Warranty (DDR4)
Operating System : 1 x Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64 BIT (Genuine DVD & COA Included) -

Unit Price £1688.76
Delivery £0
Vat £337.75
Grand Total Inc Vat: £2026.51

Any advice, recommendations, help and other builds people have done for a similar price or less with 1 or 2 cards would be greatly appreciated. I have spoken with chaos group who said they can't recommend specific hardware.

Thanks Guys

Matt

I'm sure you can start with 1 GTX 1070, or you could just upgrade and get a singular GTX 1080 instead of (eventually) 2 GTX 1070's. Although SLI 1070's would bring more performance, 1 1080 would also bring nice performance.

You'll need to buy an SLI bridge too no doubt, not sure how much they cost.

Cool, thanks mate. I'm going to take a close look now. I had a chat with chaos group and they said VRAY RT is not compatible with GPU's using SLI?
Does that make sense?
