Is it worth spending more for overclocking a 4790k with a watercooler?

I have a 4790K and I leave it stock. I oced at first, but I didn't find a real need to do so.
I was a real big ocer back in the day when mobos still had banks of dip switches. I used to oc to get more performance but now I don't see any big performance gains.

I do like to have the option to oc if the need arises.

You can overclock on either of those boards. I really like the sabertooth boards, but they can be quite pricey the Z97A would serve you just as well, in alot of ways they are very similar motherboards. You don't need a water cooler to overclock, I'm not a big fan of AIO coolers like the corsair H100i for example, I would much prefer a good air cooler. I linked a couple below.

Cheaper air cooler should still get you a nice overclock: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/cwPzK8/be-quiet-cpu-cooler-bk009

Mid range cooler good for a quite hefty overclock: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/YwGkcf/be-quiet-cpu-cooler-bk018

High end air cooler: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/4vzv6h/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhd15

I had the Z87-A, was great for overclocking and stability. Z97 is almost identical.
GOOD watercooling will give you option to increase the voltage a bit more as they have better cooling capacity. But usually it means another 100 or 200 MHz.
It will keep your overclocked system cooler and quieter.
But again, we are talking about 120-170$ price for cooler. if it worth it, up to you.

What cooler do you have? No the sabertooth wont do much vs the Z97A, the differences mainly come down to bios features, power delivery, and component choices it wont make a difference in performance in terms of FPS in games. The sabertooth is built with more robust components that can mange heat and abuse better, that said the Z97A is built very well too. I would only get the sabertooth if you like the aesthetics and you have the money to spend, or you plan on doing some serious overclocking.

I use the H100i and it keeps my 4790K cool, no issues.
I had my CPU clocked at 4.875 GHz and I never experienced any heat issues when I was ocing.
Like I said earlier, I just put my CPU at default and left it alone.

So in reality me spending the extra on the sabertooth will be pointless. It's not like I'm struggling for performance with an 17 and a 980 yet and even if i decide to overclock the z97 is still fine?
