Malwarebytes is good and should be used, but it specializes in malware as opposed to virus. I have been using Microsoft Securities Essentials for years. Haven't had a virus yet. And it works seamlessly with Win. Plus, you can run Malwarebytes with it active.

It might not be mallware, tho. Never heard of malware quietly shutting down a system. That's why I suggested checking for a virus by doing a full scan. But first update your virus pgm to the latest signatures.

Ok so it's still doing this...
It happens with and with out the GPU
With 1 or the other sticks of RAM
And I have run a full system scan
Do you know if this is a sign of a faulty cpu motherboard, or power supply?

The PSU is the usual culprit. But the way you describe it, it sounds like the machine is going thru a normal shut-down, rather than an abrupt power loss. Can you verify if that is the case?

And list your system specs, including PSU make and model.

gtx 960
8gb crucial ram
1tb WD blue HDD
600w evga 80+ bronze
edit and it goes through a full shutdown asking if i want to cancel and then shutting down again a few minutes later with no option

That sounds like something is taking over the system and requesting a Windows shut down. Did you run a FULL virus scan? Malware scan?
