Hi Tom's Hardware,

Could I get some help with I bind I've found myself in with compatibility of my Dell computer and Geforce 730 graphics card?

I need three display outputs on a medium to ok graphics card, along with firewire and RAID cards and our 2 SSDs and 1 HDD and must be able to run Ubuntu 14.04. The problem is that the included power supply unit lacks the power and current needed to run this graphics card. The PSU could handle all these components when a lower tier graphics card was installed.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I could upgrade this propriety looking PSU or what lower power 3 video output graphics cards I could get? (Preferably a mix of DVI and HDMI)? I would even be willing to look at similarly priced off the shelf computers at this point if they could take these cards and drives.

**What is your parts list?

- Computer: DELL OptiPlex 7040 (model: D18M type: D18M001)
- PSU Specs:
- Max 240 Watts
- Max 16.5A at 12V

- Graphics Card: EVGA Nvidia GeForce GT 730
- Needs at least 300 watts and 20Amps at 12Volts

- Firewire: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QY7M3Y
- RAID Host: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EA0WMOS
-1 TB HDD
- 2x 500 GB Samsung SSD

**Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.**

With all components installed the system will not boot up. Instead:
- the graphics card makes a cyclic noise of trying to power on, but no fan movement.
- No beeping occurs
- The PC case and CPU fans will start running
- When the power button is held the fans will stop, however when it is released they start again. The system will not toggle between some on/off like states, but just stays "on" until disconnected from power

**List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.**

- Tried the graphics card in two different PCIe 2.0 x16 ports.
- Tried removing backup battery and powering draining capacitors (held down power button)
- Tried reinstalling RAM
- Re configured the computer to its condition before the new card install and it worked fine again

Thanks a lot for you help and time!

Solution
If you have secure boot and/or CSM (Compatability Support Module) settings in the Bios, then disabled Secure bott and enable CSM and try again please.
