GTX 1080 Power Connection dilemma...

hi didn't want to go any further till I resolved this confusion. I just installed EVGA GTX 1080 that has two 8 pin connections. I have an EVGA 750P2 power supply that has two 6+2/6 pin cables, four 6+2 pin cables. do I use 2 separate 6+2 pin cables or just f this and go to cablemod.com and order a custom dual 8 pin cable instead?

Check the papers that came with your PSU. My Seasonic 650W had a document saying to use two separate PCIE power cables for GPU's over 220 W. It could be different for yours.

the 2+6 plugs are 8 pin plugs. they should be fine.

As that PSU has a single rail 12v you can use the two 6+2 that are on a single cable

sizzling is right. The PSU has approx 750 watts all coming off that one 12 volt rail.
I'd still be tempted to use 2 different leads (6+2 is fine) just to divvy up the heat on the leads and let the guts handle it.

With much older and far more power hungry GPU's it was best practice to use 2 cables but modern GPU's use so much less power its not needed. I've been running a GTX780 with a strong OC for years on a single cable and that is a much more power hungry GPU than a 1080. With fewer cables comes better airflow, I'd use a single cable but either way will work ok.

Single cable with two 6+2 will work fine.

ok, thanks. it works fine running two separate 6+2pin cables to the graphics card.
