Re-install windows after hardware upgrade - tricky twist

Hi All,

I recently upgraded my SSD and re-installed my Windows 7 successfully.

Since then my CPU started to fail so I decided to upgrade my CPU, motherboard and RAM.

I re-fit my case with the new components and connected my SSD. Booted fine to BIOS, although it is not recognising/reading Windows 7. I realise this was an oversight of mine.

My question now is - can I install a new version of Windows (happy to pay for new version of Windows 10 or 7) from only the bios screen via optical drive/usb?

Will I then be able to uninstall/remove the old existing OS on the SSD to make use of this space?

Thanks

Does it start to boot and you see the Windows logo and then it crashes?
Did you switch from AMD to Intel processor or vice versa?
Did you set your BIOS to the correct SATA setting? Normally it is AHCI.
If you have a retail Windows 7 license you will be able to activate it on the new hardware. If you have an OEM version (i.e. it came with the computer) you will need a new license to activate Windows.

And yes, you can do a clean install from a USB or DVD drive. You can get Windows 10 from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/
It lets you create a DVD or USB that is bootable and will let you install Windows 10.

It gets to the Windows boot manager and "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause"

File: \windows\system32\config\system

Status: 0xc000000f

If I then proceed it recognises Windows Vista on an old HDD but not Windows 7 on the SSD.

Still with Intel and I have a retail Windows license. Just tried changing the SATA settings in BIOS but I couldn't find it for the life of me. I have an ASUS b150m-a m.2
