As the title says, I JUST BOUGHT a new computer, 2 days old, built AND 'TESTED' at their shop.
Computer has 1 SSD and 1 HDD. I installed windows over ubuntu from the SSD. The HDD was RAW, and could not be used at all. I tried to format it normally, and it failed. I tried some other partition wizard, and it failed. I tried different options with drive management, and it still failed. Eventually, I tried using my windows installer disk, but for some reason, it was stuck at setup is preparing, and I couldn't use it again(???). I tried to look in BIOS to format the junk, and there was nothing. Eventually, I used another formatting program, except, after it finished formatting it, the drive disappeared, completetly. It is not found by OS or BIOS. Only Intel Rapid Storage Technology sees it, and is now complaining about a SMART event.

I'm at lost of words at my unfortune, even more-so on this junky WD HDD.
What should I do now?

Hi there groxon,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD Drive. :(
Taking into account all the things you've tried, it seems that the drive has failed. As scout_03 said, as the computer is most probably under warranty, you can just contact the place you got it from and eveuntually RMA it. The guys over there might replace the DOA drive.

Hope everything goes well,
D_Know_WD :)

I really don't know what to say, I'm at loss of words.
The drive appeared today, but it's still not formatted. I didn't go to shop yet.
Also, I was suggested to check the SATA cables, is it worth it?
