USB ports + mouse/keyboard acting weird

Hi!

I am running into a very frustrating issue that I am having trouble fixing by myself. For some odd reason, from time to time my keyboard and mouse which are plugged into a usb port at the back of my case will stop working and make me lose the ability to use my keyboard or mouse because it isn't always at the same time. When it does that, I can make my keyboard and/or mouse work again by changing to another usb port. However I cannot use the "damaged" port until I restart my computer. There is also many times where I am using my mouse in a game most of the time and it stops working for a second... VERY annoying in the middle of a game.

I am using a roccat Kone pure mouse and a cooler master quickfire tk keyboard.

-Started after to so great upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10
-Tried some usb driver updates but maybe I didn't get the right one because it still does it.
-Did a fresh install not so long ago and it didn't fix the problem
-When a usb port stops working, windows tells me that a usb port stopped working or is malfunctioning or something like that.

I am out of ideas on how to fix this and it's frustrating.

All the help is appreciated, Thank you!

That's typical behaviour for a USB port if it's being fed back voltage (to shut itself off to prevent damage). If this were one keyboard or one mouse, then I'd look to the keyboard, but considering it's happening with both, I doubt that's the case.....but it;s still a possibility.

Does the problem repeat itself with a different mouse/keyboard combo?

ok so after a short period of test it appears to be working fine, is there another way to solve this issue aside from changing keyboard and mouse? Also, what is causing that? damaged cable?

I really have no idea what's causing the issue, or any way to confirm 100% that the issue is the ports being fed back voltage, but it certainly sounds like it.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you're going to need to replace at least a keyboard OR mouse. Try the mouse with your alternative (working) keyboard, and vice-versa, the keyboard with the alt (working) mouse. Perhaps it's only one of them that truly at fault, and it happens to be tripping a second port from over-protection somehow (I assume you use the mouse/keyboard in USB ports next to one another, so it's a possibility).

Most likely the mouse then as it cuts off for a second often when I am playing a game while the keyboard only shuts down when the mouse completely go down too. I will do further testing today and hopefully will only have to replace mouse.

Thank you!
