i7 4790K & Titan X Pascal?

Hi

Pretty much what the title describes.

Would an i7 4790K and a Titan X work together to run BF1 ultra preset at 1440p 90fps+. Or would the CPU just max out.

I current have an EVGA G2 550w PSU.

Cheers

I don't see why it wouldn't? Here's some benchmarks (via Youtube, so take them with a pinch of salt) at >100FPS with a Titan X and a 5930K, that's showing 99% GPU usage.

Your 4790K should see some pretty high utilization, maybe holding back the GPU a tiny little bit, but BF1 isn't using the full 12 threads available to a 5930K and the 4790K you have has much higher boost clock. You should see something fairly comparable. I'd hazard a guess at >100+ more often than not.

FWIW, it appears you can accomplish the same thing with a 1080 for half the price

Well i currently have a MSI GTX 1080 and at 99% usage i'm getting 60-100fps in amien & ball room blitz but i pretty much have 70fps 90% of the time. Would this be down to the CPU or GPU.

I really want to get 100fps for BF1, i was hoping the GTX 1080 would give me a constant 100fps but the card doesn't seem to be able to handle it.

Hmm, something doesn't seem right there then. It's definitely not down to the GPU.

Is your 4790K at stock? If so, giving it a bit of extra 'oomph' with an OC would help some. I heard someone mention that RAM speed plays a factor in BF1 for some reason (haven't validated this myself), but if you're running at 1333 or 1600 MHz, then pushing a bit of an OC there too *might* help (again, just something I heard - no idea if true or how much of an impact).

Its at stock but i have a tier 4 asrock anniversary motherboard so it isn't the best for overclocking. I don't even know how to safely overclock anyways.

The added cores might help a little, but not 1,200 quid worth of 'help' IMO. You'd only be getting marginal improvements overall (with the 4790K still being relatively new, not a particularly huge jump to a 6800K), with a clockspeed lower than where you're at currently.

While your board might not be the best overclocker, it would be more cost effective to push what you can out of it (perhaps requiring the purchase of a decent liquid or air cooler), costing no more than maybe 100.

Well, it's BF1, so unless the recent patch fixed it you're going to have issues (even the Skylake i7s have issues with it).

Barring that, try switching it to run DX11 instead of DX12. Don't know if it's a coding issue in the game itself, or something that nVidia & AMD can fix with drivers, but DX12 is apparently much less stable. Techspot (http://www.techspot.com/review/1267-battlefield-1-benchmarks/page4.html) shows slightly better average FPS for their tests under DX12, but much lower minimum FPS -- note that on DX11 with the same Skylake i7, the Titan X (12GB) was able to hit 180FPS@1080p & 141FPS@1440p (http://www.techspot.com/review/1267-battlefield-1-benchmarks/page2.html). Note that they have their i7 at a higher level, though (CPU benchmark page shows 4GHz, but their original test setup page said 4.5GHz), so you might have to drop those figures down by 10-20%. They also highly recommend that gamers with nVidia cards only play it on DX11.

I'm on Windows 7 so i don't have DX12.

So if i got an i7 Skylake (and a 1151 MOBO) and a Titan X i would get 120-144fps ultra 1440p?

I'd be pretty surprised if Wayfall hadn't addressed that already Isokolon. It's pretty much down to benchmarks OC'd, with Wayfall's setup at stock.

Wayfall; If you 'want' a new CPU etc, the 6800K would be a decent enough option, but I see it more as a sideways step. You might gain a couple of FPS in some titles, and lose more in others due to the added cores/threads/newer tech & OC'd.............I don't see anywhere close to the benefits that would justify the substantial cost.

Who out there is averaging 100FPS? And what are their specs? I would assume that the vast majority of people achieving those numbers have OC'd i7s.

Throwing more & more 'power' (cores, threads, DDR4, X99 a 1080 to TtanXp upgrade etc) doesn't really matter much when you're dealing with poorly-optimized titles (now BF1 certainly isn't the worst, but it's been said, even newer hardware has had some issues with it).

honestly, I average 115fps+ on BF1 with an i7-6700k / Gtx1070 / 16gb RAM @1080p
seeing the i7-4790k's performance you should average 100fps quite easily CPU-wise.

you could try though lowering some graphic settings and monitor your fps
if they do go up it's GPU related.

Well the usage goes all over the place. i have it on ultra and it will never go to 99% usage like my other games.

I have lowered settings but when the heart of the battle starts my frames go all the way down to 60fps so my aim so unsmooth.

are we just going to put to optimization again. i want 100fps max settings hear and i do get it now and then but when the battle starts its all the way back down again
