I've had this problem for a while now, I replaced all my pc parts, except for my Cpu(AMD 6300). I recently changed out my psu that was actually breaking my pc as well(thats another story). I changed out SATA cables for new ones and the problem still persists. I think that the psu at the time had begun corrupting my hard drive when before I changed it out.

I'lle be playing any game and randomly my game freezes, fps drops, studders for a few seconds and and or minutes. Then when I unplug my SATA cables from my HDD and SSD it is completely fine, other than for the 100% disc usage.

Can anyone help me identify the problem, its an extreme annoyance!

Can you list your whole specs (especially the psu).

Hi there MemorableSauce,

Have you tried using different different power cables and ports as well? If you haven't tried that, I believe it would be a good idea to do so.
Which of your drives gets high disk usage? Just your OS one, or both of them? High disk usage, if we assume that is not caused by OS services, could be caused by faulty power cables(PSU respectively) as well.

It may be a good idea to back up the most important data stored on the drive until you sort this out.

Also, you can run some stress testing.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

Hi, yeah the HDD is the one with the high disk usage and it also has the OS on it. When I replug in the sata cables it is put into different ports. I saw another thread talking about something with a metal that builds up and causes the error and when the sata cable is unplugged it is cleaned off for a short duration.

I already replaced the sata cables so I figured that if that is the problem, it would be gone, but if it is actually the problem it might be the sata ports on the mobo. I luckily am getting a new mobo for xmas as well as a new cpu. So, all new stuff. If the problem still persists, then I'm guessing the HDD is "sick" and won't get better or worse. Or I keep downloading a program or malware, virus, etc that is causing this to happen. OR I just have bad luck.

BUT knowing the solution to the problem or the source of the problem itself would be f****** awesome!

Is there a way to move the os onto my ssd? Or do i have to completely re-download windows 10 onto it?
