best ddr3 ram for gaming

Solution
DDR3 1600 mhz or faster, CAS 9 or lower with at least 8 gb's. Usually this is 2 x 4gb sticks. If the price is good, go ahead and get 2 x 8gb sticks(matched pairs, sold as a set). There shouldn't be much issue with different brand names either, all should be reliable.

As a side note, it will also depend on the speed your motherboard chipset can use. Lower end chipsets stop at ddr3 1600mhz...buying faster than that isn't going to harm your system, but you won't get the benefits, it'll just down clock itself to run at 1600mhz.

It's not so much the type of RAM, it's just the channel you're running in. Dual Channel at 1600 MHz is the sweet spot for gaming. Any higher speeds is a waste. Just go dual channel (2 x 8) or (2 x 4) GB @ DDR3 1600 MHz and you will get the best performance.

I recommend Kingston HyperX Fury RAM for great prices and reliability.

i forgot to mention im looking for 16gb and my motherboard is gigabyte ga h97m ds3h

Well then, right now this is what I'd buy for that motherboard:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $79.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

2 x 8gb sticks are running at the lowest 78 dollars, so getting a quality g.skill set for just under 2 dollars more is great. Simply, this is reliable, well performing Ram.
