What do you think the price for the Amd RayZen 4 core/8 SMT will be?

Because I upgrade my build to a 300$ xeon 1231v3, what do you guy think the price will be for AMD's 4 core ZEN cpu? I wouldn't want to spend 300$ on a cpu and then see that AMD's 4 core cpu + am4 mobo + ddr4 ram is less expansive than the cpu only.

On release, most likely around the $320-350 mark. You'll have to wait a little while before they start mass producing, and the prices will compete with Intel's counterpart (i7 Skylake/Kaby Lake).

Zen will definitely be slower per clock than Skylake and Kaby Lake, so expect 4c8t Zen to be cheaper (and slower) than 4c/8t Skylake and Kaby Lake. I'm thinking it will be more of an i5 competitor, or comparable to a 3rd or 4th generation i7.

So in the end I should just get the xeon 1231v3 since it's pretty much going to be the same thing as a 4th gen i7 and same price? Especially since I already have a lga1150 mobo + 8gb ram.

Granted the numbers are from AMD, but they are showing that their CPU's are comparable to the i7 6900k, which is impressive. It's looking good for AMD if the numbers hold up, they will give Intel some competition.

8c/16t, yes, but not the 4c8t model. Broadwell-E lacks the EDRAM that DT Broadwell has, and performs about the same as Haswell-E per clock, because it basically is Haswell with a die shrink.

If 8 core Zen performs around the same as 8c Broadwell without EDRAM, you can expect 4c Zen to perform around as well as 4c Haswell. As you say, we only have the benchmarks provided us by AMD and they're certainly not going to show Zen's weaknesses.
