Hi, I am newbie on this, I would like to know if i7 5960X would go well with 2X Titan X P?

Does threading have to do anything with this? This is not my rig, its just a question.

Solution
It should work well though a bit overkill for gaming in terms of cores, a bit lacking in gaming in speed. As core counts increase the clock speed decreases with intel cpu's. One of the main perks with the 5960x is the pcie lanes, there are 40 so enough to run both cards at x16. There's only a slight improvement over x16/x8 though on a cpu with fewer lanes.

The 5960x out of the box is clocked at 3ghz with turbo up to 3.5ghz. Compared to an i7 6700k which only has 4 cores with hyperthreading but has clock speeds of 4ghz and turbo up to 4.2ghz. In some games the 6700k will outperform the 5960x based on clock speed. Hyperthreading doesn't really have a lot to do with sli by itself. Also not all games support sli, but that's another...

2x titan x's and a 5960x doesn't sound so much like a gaming rig as a lot of money being thrown at the problem. Both the 5960x and the 6700k can be overclocked though the 6700k will likely overclock further. It's easier to overclock fewer cores without stability issues so the 5960x probably won't overclock as far. TH did some testing and got 4 out of 5 5960x's to oc to 4.5ghz which isn't too terrible. A 6700k may reach another 200-300mhz. Much of it depends on the cpu lottery, no guarantees on max oc. If all 8 cores are at full load and overclocked a decent liquid cooler will probably be in order for the 5960x.
