Hi,

I've recently purchased a MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6gb from msy and replacing it for my older one (AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition GPU) and that needed 2x 6pin PCI-E express connectors. Now the question is - is it safe to use a 2x molex to 8pin adapter safe?

I've been reading other posts that people have made and found out that it's about the type of PSU you have that depends if it's safe or not and that it's still not recommended if you do have a decent power supply.

SPECS:

Power Supply - Aerocool VX-550

Operating System - Windows 10 pro 64-bit

CPU - Intel Core i5 6600k 3.50GHz

Ram - 16gb (don't think it matters too much)

Motherboard - ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. H110M-A/M.2 (LGA1151)

GPU - (old) AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (Gigabyte)
(new) MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6gb

Current psu has only one 6pin pcie power cable according to specs so seems he's already using an adapter. With a single +12V rail shouldn't it make to much difference if the adapter went to an 8pin or 6pin pcie connector.
With new hardware like this maybe a good time to upgrade the psu as well for better quality and good connections?

You can use adapters but it is not the preferred method. I would recommend to pickup a decent power supply. There are tons of sales right now and rebates on EVGA power supply from multiple vendors.
