Hi All,

I recent have this issue with my laptop where the performance overall is very slow.
I tried checking SMART on the HDD and it seems to be perfectly fine.
However, if I were to benchmark the HDD using HD Tune, I get a maximum of about a 100 MBps and a minimum of under 1 MBps with the average being around 30 MBps.

Can anyone tell me if my laptop HDD is failing or is it some other issue?

Solution
I believe you need to sort this constant 100 % disk usage issue, which many users are facing with Win 10. Unfortunately, there are many causes and many possible fixes. There are multiple threads on that in the community. You can take a look at those.

As this is your OS drive, I believe that the graph could be greatly impacted by your OS. One thing you can do is to attach the drive as a secondary one to another computer (either internally or externally and re test).

As for the SMART data, it's good that there are no bad sectors.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)
Hi there amsga,

I believe it would be nice to just back up your important data stored on the drive until you sort this out.

What is your OS? See if you get high disk usage under Resource Monitor.
Have you installed something recently?

Can you provide a screenshot of the SMART report? Just upload the screen to an image hosting website and post the link.

Let me know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

Sorry all for the late reply.
The OS is WIndows 10.
I do see a high disk usage on the Resource and Task Manager at 100% utilization but the throughput is like 1+ MBps.
Nothing has been installed recently to the best of my knowledge.
