Euro Truck Simulator 2 poorly runs on a good PC

Hello, so I have a problem with Euro Truck Simulator 2. My PC is I guess pretty good ? (STRIX 970 ; i5 6600K OCd at 4.6 16 GB DDR4 2800Mhz RAM ; Games like BF1 at full settings run at a solid 60-70 fps ; BF4 maxed 70-80 fps as well) Although ETS 2 has some areas where it seems like I'm trying to run crysis 3 maxed at 4K ( Stockholm for example, other cities are also making me lag but I am not not sure which ones ) ; Rain is making things even worse dipping to 30 FPS !!! ; Latvia for example is a beautiful scenery and runs good for me 80-70 fps on average hits the 90-100 on soft areas. (even at high fps I get stuttering like my truck doesn't move smoothly on the road from time to time). You will maybe tell me to reduce the game scaling to 100% since it's the ''native'' resolution although I deny doing that since this game already looks blurry at 200% scaling. The objects' edges also look bad and pixelated on long distances, fences' holes are moving, distorted and will only look decent when I'm near them otherwise it looks like a jagged, blurry mess, but 200% is anyway better than 100% of course, even reducing it doesn't help much I would still get stuttering and heavy dips from 90 to 50 fps in some heavy areas (stockholm, no idea why but this city hates me).

Before you ask me :
- Drivers are up to date.
- Validated the game files (probably won't fix anything as it validated all of them)

Before you tell me :
- Comparing BF1 and BF4 to ETS 2 is a bit stupid, yes, but I'm just saying that my hardware can run such games while it can't run a game based on a prism3d engine..

Thanks in advance,
Aleks.

That doesn't seem abnormal to be honest if you have everything maxed at 200% scaling, The FPS will take a dive when you're in or near a city. It's amazing what SCS have managed to do considering ETS2 and ATS both use DirectX 9, but DirectX 9 in 2016 is... <mod edit>

The thing is, why can't they upgrade the engine, or stop using DX9 and start working on ETS2 using DX11 ? I don't get it.. We have good PCs and we can't run a prism3d engine game.. which kinda kills the experience for me.. even at 100% scaling I get 40-50 fps in Ljubljana or Zagreb, didn't try other balkan cities but it is probably the same. I mean the game is amazing (Promod is just.. wow ) But yeah I guess I'll have to get used to it if it isn't abnormal.

I haven't got a clue why SCS didn't use a newer API in the first place mate, it's baffling. ETS2 was released 2 years after the release of DirectX 11.

I'm going to get a headache... playing with 40 fps in some cities is really hurting my eyes.. what can I do without degrading the graphics or maybe slightly, I don't want to play on low settings x)

Dunno mate. Is the FPS better when you're not using mods?

In cities I guess the fps would be arround 50 without promods.. but man this mod is too good to not be used.. adds so much to the game. It just kills me that people using a GTX770 (which was my old gpu) are able to run it with 400% scaling maxed out without a single lag.. I don't get it.

I don't believe for a second that people can max out ETS2 with 400% scaling with a GTX 770 and a decent CPU and get better performance than you. If I remember correctly, without any mods, I used to drop down to around ~80fps with the game maxed out @ 400% scaling with a 980 Ti + 4790k, I'll have to retest with my RX 480.

EDIT: Just tested ETS2 by driving round Amsterdam, everything absolutely maxed with 400% scaling and my average FPS was ~55 with occasional drops down to ~40.

Well then people saying that must be lying, it sounded weird to me as well. You drop to 50-40 in amsterdam with 400% scaling.. I drop to 40-35 sometimes 27 with rain on 200% scaling ; shadows on high (instead of ultra) no change whatsoever.

True. I guess I'll have to deal with it anyway.. One thing as well.. when it rains, I get weird pixelated reflections.. the reflections aren't smooth at all, they're literally squares. what the hell XD
