(Solved) All devices say they have internet connection but none can access internet or load webpages

Like the title says, my PC, Mac, Phone, Xbox, and Wii all say they are connected to the internet but none can actually access it. This happened all at once 3 days ago which made me assume a hardware failure.

What I've tried:

- Hard power cycle and button reset at least 10 times for router and modem each

-plugging Ethernet from modem directly into Mac and having full connection but still can't access webpages (not a defective router )

-switching out modem to a different one and having same issue (not a defective modem)

- Windows Network Diagnostics that say no issues could be found with the connection

- Testing connection on Chrome and Firefox with the same results

-Running administrative netsh winsock reset and int ip reset.log multiple times

-Disabling firewall

-Checking that there are no proxies active and IP and DNS are set to acquire automatically

- Pinging www.google.com as well as every other website through the cmd function works just fine but I still can't load anything

- I can access my router page at 192.168.1.1 but cannot see any issues here

-Checking with ISP that no one in my building has reported any connection issues lately


The thing that's weird is that after switching out the modem it still didn't work, but after switching it back to the original modem the Network Diagnostics said it was suddenly a DNS issue. So I manually changed the DNS to 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220, 8.8.8.8, and 8.8.4.4 as per suggestion in another forum. After that it started working again right away on my PC. I had to leave though and when I came back about 1-2 hours later it was back to not working at all even when back to automatic DNS settings aside from it half-loading a webpage one time.

I am at my wits end...please help me

yes the PC..not the router, it has something to do with certificate...if the PC date is wrong you won't be able to connect to any website. as you stated you can ping but cannot surf most cases it has something to do it system dates.

you can also try this:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run * for XP
3. Type cmd
4. Click Ok
5. In the Black Command Box Type: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
6. Hit Enter Key
7. Restart the computer and try to log in and browse the Internet. If the problem persists, continue using these steps.
8. Click Start
9. Click Run
10. Type cmd
11. Click Ok
12. In Black Command Box Type: netsh winsock reset
13. Hit Enter Key
14. Restart Computer

Ok yea the PC is definitely good there. If it wasn't though, that wouldn't cause my other 5 devices to not be able to connect too would it?

I do have a desktop app that shows a bunch of my PC stats realtime including network upload and download speed. I noticed that I do actually have a constant download speed updating realtime but it hovers at only 500b-1.5 kb/s while I usually get around 15mb/s. So it looks like I still have an active connection but for some reason it's cut to being so slow that websites timeout before they can connect I guess?

you can also try this:

1. Click Start

wait so you mean that other than the pc. other devices cannot surf the net too? is that right? or just the pc alone?

No that's fine, it's a lot of shit to read. Found UPnP but turning it off didn't fix anything. Turning it off actually seemed to lower the download speed to only about 50-150b/s and caused the network troubleshooter to suggest an issue with the modem connection instead of it saying it couldn't find any issue with the connection. It definitely seems to me that my connection speed has somehow for some reason just been slowed down so much that it's useless. I don't understand why though

probably some settings in the router..maybe an auto update feature...ok now try this goto admin tools or system tool in the router backup your firmware and settings(for those just incase moments), now look for any firewall settings in the router and try to check uncheck somethings there see if that helps on the surfing part.

The only thing there similar to a firewall was a section for "Blocking" site or services but it was already disabled

ok now the tricky part, write down the username & password of your router (no not the one to get in the router the account to connect to the internet) and other settings. write down those that have check. then one by one try unchecking them and if anything goes a miss you can always restore from the backup that you made.

Well turns out my credit card being used to pay the internet bill through autodraft had expired and the ISP had the wrong number so they couldn't get in touch with me to let me know. So they just cut service to me.

But dude, thanks for being so determined to help. Seriously, you never gave up. I'd buy you a beer if I could
