Anyone know about PPI (pores per inch) and what PPI is good air flow?

Hi,

I am wanting to make some custom air filters for my case intake fans, i dont like the pantyhose idea. But i found some black foam air filter sheets on ebay and it says they are 60 PPI but i dont know if that is too restrictive for fan air flow or not.

I did find this much about PPI - The standard is from 10 to 80 PPI where type 10 has large cells and is rather open, whereas PPI 80 has small cells, is more dense, and has a lower air flow. But that still does not tell me is 10 like no air filter and 80 like chocking.

here is what i am looking at:

thanks :)

As you said already - Low PPI = More Airflow, but more dust.

High PPI - Less airflow and more dust.

I say the best would be to go for around the middle, so good airflow and good dust protection, if you know what I mean by this anyway.

If you're not sure, a good choice is to get the good parts of one things and put it with the good parts of the other, hence the middle.
