Hey everyone, I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is, but I wanted to post here just to verify. I recently bought a new case (MasterCase Maker 5), so I had to swap everything out from my old case, (NZXT Phantom) into the new one. Upon doing so, everything seemingly was fine, until I tried hooking up one of my monitors to it. I was getting no signal on my monitor. I've tried most of the troubleshooting that I see that gets posted when this happens like, removing and testing each stick of RAM, clearing the CMOS, and so on. I decided to remove the motherboard from the new case, and as I was doing that, I realized that I didn't put all the motherboard standoffs in. There were only about 2 in already, so I'm not really sure how I managed to screw the motherboard in, in the first place since I didn't really seem like I was putting much force on it. So anyways, I pretty come to the conclusion that I ended up shorting the motherboard. Everything was working great prior to that, so I don't really see it being a failure of any of the other components. I just wanted to see your guys thoughts on it, and if that is what the issue is.

post cpu, mb, video card?

Did you get "no video" beep code or other MB BIOS code? if not the MB was not posting.
When you pulled all RAM did you get the "no memory" bios / beep code? if not the MB was not posting.

Verify power to the video card is tightly connected at MB end and at modular PSU end ? (if the bios got through POST)

Test the MB outside case on cardboard with video card installed ? (if the BIOS got through post)

I've read that people can short their MB this way. Never done it, never seen it, don't know if the damage is permanent (smoked part) or goes away once the board is no longer shorting.

1. Always make sure that you have all 9 screws in (typical for ATX board, YMMV). But the brass standoffs are electrically conductive so aby solder point that touched would be an instant short.

2. You did plug the monitor cable into the MoBo or GFX card ?

3. Checked the Monitor OSD to make sure set to read correct input ?

I have a GTX 970, a i5 4670k, and my motherboard is a msi z87 gd65 gaming. I wasn't getting any beeps from the mobo, and it was just showing 00 on the code. The board isn't making it through post at all.

I tried both the integrated graphics as well as the GPU itself. Both didn't work. I had the correct input on the monitor, so that's not the issue. I did put all the standoffs in and tried to boot it up again, but it still wasn't displaying.

You won't get any beeps, haven't heard a beep in this millenium. Open your MoBo Manual and look what the 00 code means... and make sure it's not D0 which would be a different item.

I'd start by resetting CMOS or doing a BIOS replacement is the board is so equipped. If you don't get anywhere, board may be bricked... Call MSI tech support and have them walk you thru.

Sometimes boards don't post because one of the adapters or memory modules is in sidewise. Suggest you pull everything from the MB except PSU, CPU, CPU Fan. Make sure you pull the Sata connectors from the MB side. Pull Case headers, no USB, etc. No USB devices. Short the power button pins for 1 sec to start (intermittent switch). See if you can get it to display a "no memory" code. ("..haven't heard a beep in this millenium..." Jack is right, if your MB has an LED display for error codes it won't beep, it'll give a code. p.s. Jack, my PC still beeps to me. Cheap MB.)

I appreciate the help so far guys, I've tried pretty much everything and still nothing is working. I got a new motherboard, and everything is working great now. Thanks for all your help though regardless.
