Hello Tom's Hardware,

I don't usually post on forums, hopefully I don't get flamed for putting this in the wrong section or something...
I need to get a new gpu for my PC, right now I have an (don't laugh) AMD Radeon HD 5700 and pretty much always play single player open world type games; Skyrim, Fallout 4, Witcher 3, No Mans Sky.
PC specs are as follows:
CPU Type QuadCore AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 955, 3200 MHz (16 x 200)
Motherboard Name Biostar TA790GX A3+ (2 PCI, 2 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR3 DIMM, Audio, Video, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)
Motherboard Chipset AMD 790GX, AMD K10
RAM 12 gigs DDR3 SDRAM
Power Supply CORSAIR CX600
Windows 10 Professional (free upgrade from my wife's school, used to have XP)

I don't know how badly the above information will limit my selection but I'd like some advice on what Video Card to get while keeping it under $200.

Thanks!

Hands down, I recommend a GTX1050Ti 4GB.

You can get one for about $135USD+ linked through pcpartpicker.

I would only get NVidia because AMD's DX11 drivers use more CPU cycles and you are already going to be CPU bottleneck much of the time.

Get that, then TWEAK your game settings for the best experience.
I would suggest sticking to something low end like the 460 or 470 at most. The 470 is a very powerful card and a great video card.

Video Card: MSI Radeon RX 470 4GB ARMOR OC Video Card ($173.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $173.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Unfortunately your CPU is not the strongest so to go too far up the GPU food chain would be counter productive....you'd basically find yourself CPU bound in modern AAA game titles.

Any of the low/mid end current GTX line up would be more than enough - GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060.

You could always look out for a Phenom II 980 (the fastest CPU your mobo will support) and pick up a decent aftermarket CPU cooler and overclock the bejeezuz out of it too....that's what I'd do.

Either of these are a good option. The 1050Ti would be good to check out as well.

Thanks for all the replies about my measly old PC. This should keep my gaming habit cheap for a while longer.
I think the part about Nvidia using less CPU clock cycles is the clincher since the CPU is the weakest part of my computer.
I found a website called GPUBoss (which looks pretty legit) and I compared the GTX 1050 Ti vs the AMD Radeon RX 470 (both 4gb) and the GTX came out 0.1 higher in score and 50 bucks cheaper!
