PC build for school and every day use

i would like to build a computer for every day use my number 1 question is. is it better to just buy one from dell or something like that or should i build 1 from scratch like i did my Gaming PC?
i feel like i can build a computer for lets say about $500 and it would be better then a already build computer for $800-$1000 from best buy lol.

any ways this is what i am looking to get out of my new build.
* Basic web browsing
* Watching YouTube
* School work ( collage ) just using blackboard nothing that required to much GPU or CPU
* Multi tasking ( basic not to heavy so i think a quad core cpu would be best )
* i don't know if i should get SSD + a hard drive or just go with a hard drive
* i would like the computer to be fast pace and something i can use for 5+ years with out any big issues like extreme slow downs and etc.

that's all i can think of at the moment so if any one has any PC build i would really appreciate it.
trying to keep about a $500 Budget. can go up if needed.

I think a system like this would be fine for your needs , its a duel core 3.7 but has HT so it will be good for muti tasking.
8 gigs of ram you can always add other stick latter if you feel you need more. the SSD will speed up the OS and make things snappy load your OS on it and programs ( I would get one ) 1 tb HDD to save homework and everyday storage drive. don't see a point in a GPU the IGP will be fine for you tube.

i would wait a few weeks for the new amd zen to drop then see how well the chip is. if leaks are right it may be a better buy then intel cpu.

ty for the build any more suggestions? i want to wait for the amd chips because i feel like amd will do good this time around but i needed to build 1 for my girlfriend by xmas. =/

i just feel a little iffy about a duel core cpu... even tho it will have 4 threads. i feel like the i5 4core will outperform the i3 6100

swap out one dimm for two dimm kit. new mb look for two matched dimms to run in two channel mode. if you can bump up the power supply to 650w. it give you some overhead when you put in a gaming gpu.
