On the Z170A B150M H170 series motherboards, the Windows 7 Installation feature in the BIOS must be enabled before starting the Windows 7 installation. (This is not required for Windows 8/8.1/10 installations)

This is because the Intel 10 series does not support USB EHCI mode and only xHCI mode. However, the installation of Windows 7 does not include the driver of xHCI.

To Enable this feature, please boot into the BIOS by pressing the DEL during the MSI boot screen, and the setting will be located on Settings > Advanced > Windows OS Configuration. Once Enabled, press F10 and select Yes to save configuration and reset.

Windows 7 install media does not have the necessary usb drivers that are present on current skylake motherboards.

You have some options.

There are methods to slipstream in the needed drivers but I have not done that.

Some motherboards will have a bios option that you can set to allow legacy usb mode so you can install.

A simple solution is to use a sata connected dvd drive to do the install.

Do you know if the MSI Z170A PCMATE has the legacy usb thing and also if i need some kind of sata driver where do i get that?

Look in your motherboard manual for usb settings in the bios.
Some motherboards may have such compatibility built into one certain usb port; look for that too.
Your motherboard manual should tell you.
Read it.

Sata drivers are not a problem, windows 7 install media has those which is why I suggested using a sata attached dvd drive.

Your motherboard cd will have the usb drivers if you want to try to ectract them and slipstream into your install media.

After the System restarts, Press the F11 key during the MSI boot screen to bring up the Boot Menu.
Select your Optical Drive from the Boot Menu.
Press Any Key when the screen shows "Press Any Key to boot from CD or DVD" message.
Proceed with the Windows 7 installation normally.
