Sometimes when I start up a game and the loading screens are seen the sound in my headphones goes away and the screen becomes frozen on the previous image. The monitor then goes black but my computer is still powered up. I have to manually turn off my computer and turn it back on to get it back up. The type of hardware I have are: CPU: AMD Phenom X4 965 Black Edition. GPU: R9 380x. Motherboard: Asus Crosshair IV motherboard. The older parts are due to the computer being used by a previous owner. Now that Christmas is coming around it's the perfect time to get some upgrades. However, I have no idea what is causing this problem. My PSU and GPU are not even a year old. If anyone can help shed light on this problem I would appreciate it greatly.

Sounds like a driver isn't playing nice with your system. I'm guessing it's the GPU or audio driver. A good place to start is completely removing the current drivers with DDU (http://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=709), then downloading the latest drivers from AMD (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download) and installing them.

* note: For DDU, click the wagnardsoft link then click the blue colored link "Official Download Here". Also, allow the software to automatically boot your computer into safe mode, to completely remove the current drivers.

First off, thank you for the response. This night I just got done removing all my previous drivers with DDU and attempting to install the most recent AMD drivers. However, towards the end of the installation the download would stop and I would be prompted with a message saying it has been "partially" installed. After two or three attempts similar to the first one and getting the same results, I went back to the system restore that was made before I used DDU. I don't know why this happened, could it have been my internet connection dropping during the installation? Sadly I wasn't able to get the driver installed; however, thanks anyways.
