Recommendations on cooling and case for a 6700K/1080/TB3/2xM.2 build

Solution
Some of the features your looking for are very specific, finding a whole system LED controller thats temperature responsive requires an add in, such as the NZXT Hue +, not everything will react but at least the LED strips will. As for cooling an AIO with minimal size will reduce the need for a larger case and keep the weight down. For a clear case tempered glass adds considerable amounts of weight, but the only other options would be Plexi, which is not safe or sturdy what so ever. So the smallest size tempered glass case will be the best option there. You will also need to replace the stock RGB fans of the case for the effects to work with the Hue+. The list of parts I recommend are below.

Thanks very much for putting this together, this is giving me some good ideas. The LED stuff is very cool, I'll definitely give that some thought. Also see below for some other thoughts.

Hmm -- Amazon lists the weight of the Kraken X31 as 2.73 pounds, and NZXT lists its noise as 18-34 dBA. Whereas for the bequiet Pure Rock Slim (an air cooler), bequiet lists the weight as 0.36kg (0.8 pounds), and its noise as 13.1-25.4 dbA. Is there something I'm missing for how an AIO liquid cooler could be better in my scenario?

Ah, interesting! I didn't consider that tempered glass would be heavier. Okay, what if I do away with #6 above -- what if the case doesn't have to be transparent at all? Could I get a much lighter and quieter case?

To answer the first question, the reason I reccomended an AIO is two fold, you mentioned wanting the case lightweight which to me implied it would be moved around often. Tower coolers add a lot of strain to the motherboard, when stationary it's not much of a problem, but moving the case around often causes the board to shift and flex due to the added wieght. Personally I would choose safety in these scenarios over cutting 2 lbs. The second reason is to insure compatibilty, when running that 64GB Ram kit, I did choose it to improve the odds the cooler would not interfere much, but with AIO coolers the the block/pump combo is so small you don't even need to worry about. There is also the added bonus of control, without overclocking your looking at under 60 c under full load with everything set to the minimum in the software, so you can rely on that 18db under load.

This is an adjusted build with a good quality quiet case. The main reason I would go for the Define S is so you maintain good compatibility with whatever cooler you choose, and it's still quite small without compromising on a clean build. It's about 4 lbs lighter than the Crystal 460X. In total your looking at about 25 lbs vs 30 lbs with a tempered glass case.

Ah -- actually, it's probably not going to be moved around often. I just wanted to see if I could get a lighter computer this time compared to previous systems. In any case, your points are well taken.

Your responses have given me a lot of good food for thought -- I'll check out the components you've recommended in detail. Thanks again for your quick and insightful responses!

Also FYI -- even though I haven't settled yet on a final config, I'll mark your first answer as the "solution" for this thread just because it's so cool and might be of broader interest to others as well :)
