Hi, so right now I have a build that has a i7-4790k @ 4.4GHz, and a R9 390. Through the intel retail edge program, I can get the 6850k for $200. So I was wondering, in your opinion, would it really be worth it to buy it? I know I would have to buy a new motherboard and memory as well.

No. But hard to say if we don't know what PC will be doing. So better said, No, if gaming and typical consumer uses ... Yes if doing video editing or rendering and making a living at it.

1. These days a Sandy Bridge CPU from 2011 does just fine in consumer apps / gaming

2. The MoBo and RAM will require a substantial premium.

3. A 1070 would bring a 52% improvement in gaming plus it has 3 times the OC headroom of the 390 so about 70%
