windows 8.1 +zen/kaby lake

Hi, I would like to know, if zens and kaby lakes will work with win8.1 (so I will be able to upgrade to win10) or they wont work at all.

Unfortunately, they will only work with windows 10. It's weird but that's how it is.

MS says these CPUs are only supported in Windows 10. Not sure if you could even install using earlier versions. Not a fan of this approach from MS. Folks will start getting more interested in Linux and alternative OS from this type of thing.

HIGHLY unlikely. Linux may be getting better but for the next few years it will be no where close enough to compete with windows.

This is MS's way to force you into buying a product you don't want. I would imagine at some point someone will release generic drivers that will allow you basic stable use.

you'll have to modify the installation media, but it's now possible on skylake (originally it was not going to be possible) so it might be the same for kaby, just plan on win 10.

I am building new pc and I would like to know if I can buy cheaper win8.1 and update it or I have to buy win10 to use Zen or Kaby lake.

Possible yes but how stable and how will the system perform under load and stress? MS wants you to upgrade and wishes to stop supporting that Win 8 Catastrophe, although I would think they could sill make money by offering you the support for a cost and a discount on a upgrade which they do not at the moment.

So my question is, will I be able to run win8.1 on zen/kaby lake for time required for upgrade to win10? PC wont be under heavy load and stress, I would upgrade it immediately.

I don't think you would, because to upgrade the os would need to be fully functional, and that's not possible with these new processors.

There are no problems with skylake, you might be missing some power states, but that's all. The initial problem would be USB drivers for keyboard and mouse during installation.
