alienware aurora r3
intel i7 960 3.2ghz
6gb 1066mhz ddr3
amd hd 6950 2gb gpu
Seagate 1tb 7200 rpm hdd
I just purchased an 8gb ram upgrade for my alienware aurora r3. I looked up the dell replacement ram and bought an 8gb(2x4) upgrade for my r3 that currently has 6gb. My motherboard appears to have 6 slots for ram but everywhere I read it seems that most people with r3's are only having 4 slots.
The slots are 3 black and 3 tan slots that alternate. it reads dimm2dimm1dimm4dimm3dimm6dimm5 on my mobo. Does this mean I have 6 total or just the ability to switch over between running the sets of 3. Since my current setup is 2x2x2 does that mean I will only be able to upgrade only to 10gb or could I add the 8gb to the 6gb and have a total of 14gb??
Please advise.
