Some questions for a 1500$ PC build

I'm looking into building a new pc. My budget will be 1500$. I would like to purchase an SSD with this build, and I may need a new monitor if I go beyond 1080 60fps. I want to be able to play all games on the highest settings possible. I prefer Nvidia cards so I would be getting either a 1070 or 1080, whichever one fits a 1500$ build.

What resolution should I be targeting for this price point, and what card (1070 or 1080) should I be using to meet that target? Monitor price must be factored in to the cost of the build if I go beyond 1080p 60fps as that is the monitor I currently own.

1080p 60 fps
1080p 144 fps
1440p 60 fps
4k? Is this even viable with a 1500$ build?

Once I know what resolution and card I should be aiming for I will compile a list of parts and then make another thread asking for a critique, but first I need to know what is viable to aim for before I do that.

At max settings 1440p 144Hz will be a struggle for the 1070. You might need to tune down some settings.

Also it depends on what screen size you're aiming at.
I'm personally aiming to buy a 1440p 144Hz 24'' screen which I can run in 1080p if necessary without having some too big.pixels on the screen.
For 27'' a 1440p screen is basically necessary.

The 1070 is perfekt for 1440p/60Hz and therefore also for 1080p/144Hz
1080p 60hz --> 1060/1070/Rx480
1080p 144hz --> 1070 (1060/Rx480)
1440p 60hz -> 1070/1080
1440p 144Hz --> 1080 (1070)
4k --> 1080/Titan XP

For 1500$ a build around a 1070 would be best.
For a 1080 you'd need to.cut back and I doubt you can fit in a new screen at that budget.

I see. It looks like I will be going with a 1070. What should a 1070 be aiming for in terms of highest resolution at max settings? Is it effective enough to run a 1440p 144hz display at max settings and get enough frames to make the 144hz worthwhile?

Or will the deciding process come between 1440p 60hz vs 1080p 144hz? Essentially I don't want my monitor to be underperforming compared to what my card can do.
