SSD Hard Drive Problems in CMOS

Been having a boot up problem in CMOS for my Intel SSD and totally stumped how to proceed. I have tried searching but not coming up with anything like the problem I am having.

Started out with the CMOS dropping the SSD as default on boot-up. Would have to boot several times, changing the Boot-up sequence to the SSD several times in CMOS before the computer would boot from the SSD. Sometimes it does boot from the SSD, but usually have to change CMOS on boot. Sometimes the SSD does not show up as an option in CMOS, have to save CMOS configuration and reboot, always shows then. CMOS normally defaults to the Windows Bootup mgr

* Replaced the battery for the motherboard, nothing.
* Replaced the cable for the SSD, nothing.
* Ran WD Lifeguard for the "Extended Test, drive passed.

Help would be GREATLY appreciated!

They couldn't have banned you if you can still post. And they had no reason to (I assume).

It appears that you have a faulty motherboard. It is the only explanation left at this point I am afraid. You need to RMA it or try to get it repaired privately.

One last thing you could try is breadboarding it out of the case, maybe with a different HDD to see if it changes things, but it sounds like you have a problem that can't be fixed. I am 99% sure its the board.

It has been working flawlessly for 2 years, and then problems started with no changes to my computer. I did change the battery on the motherboard, and replaced the cable to the SSD with a new one.

Sounds like either the board or SSD then. Unlikely to be PSU as that wouldnt reset your BIOS settings. Either the SSD is dropping or the board is faulty.

Do any other BIOS settings reset? If not, its probably the SSD. You could try replacing other SSD cable (as it has two, power and data).

Unless you changed BIOS settings in the first place then you wouldn't notice a difference when they reset. Does it ever disconnect and crash Windows or just when trying to boot?

Also, what SSD is it? I dont think WD had any two years ago, so you need to use manufacturers own diag tools ideally.

Dang, meant to include this info originally:
Computer - DT ACER AT3-600-UB308 REC
C: - SSD - Intel 530 Series 240 GB Internal SSD
Windows 7

I'll see if I can find an Intel diagnostic and check the drive.

The problem is only at boot. Never have any other problems.

The battery was about 1 year old but it was still in the wrapper. I'm downloading the diagnostic tool, when done I will check the seating of the battery.

Sorry for the delay, Tom's banned me for some reason?

Ran the Intel diagnostics, it reported everything as good. Used the Intel software to upgrade the firmware on the SSD, Reseated the CMOS battery.

Made problem worse. I can't boot my PC at all. I change the BIOS to the SSD bootup, and the bootup fails, it appears as though that the BIOS isn't saving my SSD as the bootup device? I bought a new CMOS battery this morning, didn't help.

Thanks for all of your time and expertise, it is appreciated! Since this is an ACER case/motherboard, do you know if I can install an after market mother board in the case?

Twice I tried to respond to this post and both times I received a message that I was "banned". I decided just to give it another try this morning for the heck of it and it worked. go figure.

Hey you're welcome man. This place is just Sudoku for techies lol.

Your case/board are probably standard ATX as it's a mid-tower. I'd go ahead and find a new board if you are in a position to, then if you find it doesnt fit then a case would only be $30 or so. I dare say you wont need to though.

Weird about that banned message. Probably internet ghosts at work. I wouldnt worry.
