Motherboard Supports 6th Generation CPU, unless BIOS update

Hey guys,

I have finally saved up to buy all the parts for my PC. However, one problem I seem to be worrying about; is the possibility of a non-functioning CPU with respect to my MoBo. The MSI z170-a- pro, supports up to the 6th generation Intel CPU's; however, I want to wait for the new Kaby Lake CPU lineup. Thus, my one concern would be... If I purchased a 7th generation CPU and placed in on the motherboard to then flash the BIOS to a new and supporting software, will it work?

Thank You

TL;DR :
The BIOS does support 6th generation Intel CPU's from factory as well as the 7th generation but through a manual BIOS update. However, when I purchase the 7th gen CPU will the motherboard boot up in order for me to download the manual BIOS update that can work optimally with the CPU

Solution
Whats he's trying to say is even if a mobo / bios supports whatever CPU, the BIOS on it now MUST support it to flash it

If the BIOS doesnt support the CPU (that you want to install), out of the box there's no way you'll be able to flash it. Because it wont turn on / post.

The only mobos that can at the mo are ASUS mobos that support BIOS flashback.

Even if the BIOS doesnt support the CPU you're going to install, you can use flashback. And update the BIOS.

No CPU needed

Don't buy a z170 board if you want a kaby processor. Just wait and buy a z270 board when they come out. Though there will only be an increase in possible overclock with sky vs kaby lake. Same IPC, the only actual benefit is the feature set in the z270 boards.

7th gen is not even out yet and if you are getting a 6th gen mobo then its a good possibility it will not come with the most recent BIOS update to support 7th generation CPU's. if that is the case you will not be able to update the bios because the motherboard will not be able to boot

Not true, MSI did release a BIOS update for the 7th generation CPU's, like I previously mentioned. My question is, Can I place a Intel Core i7 7700k( When it is released) in a 6th generation motherboard, to then manually flash the BIOS to the downloaded 7th gen optimization.

where in my reply did i say MSI did NOT release a BIOS update for their 6th gen mobos to work with the upcoming 7th gen CPU's? what i am trying to say is if you buy a board meant for a 6th gen CPU it is highly possible it will come with an older version of the BIOS on it that only supports 6th gen CPU's. retailers do not go through there stock every time a manufacturer comes out with a BIOS update
