Is it worth to upgrade my cpu?

Hello everybody, I was just wondering whether its worth to upgrade my cpu from an i5-3570 to an i7-6700k. If I did this I would have to buy a new motherboard and new RAM as well, but I was also considering to upgrade my GTX 970 to a GTX 1070 in order to get better frames on my 1440p display. I'm not sure which to purchase for Christmas because I can't buy it all in one place.

I don't think I would bother with that. 3570, 4670, 6600 should all perform around the same, with each generation slightly faster than the one before. Same would be true with the 3770, 4770, and 6700. Personally I would just get the 3770 and keep the same board and ram. Spending that much on a board and ram just seems like a waste of money if you can just a 3770 and get "similar" performance to the 6700.

This also allows you to spend the money you would have spent on the board and ram on the bigger video card. I would rather have a 3770K and a 1070 over a 6700 and 970.
What do you use it for? Is there anything that you currently feel that it is struggling with? Have you overclocked it to its full potential yet?

If you answer to either of those questions is "no", then so is your answer to the upgrade. The graphics card would bring a much more noticeable improvement in what you're aiming for :)

Edit: nvmd the OC question if yours is the regular 3570; I had your thread and a 3570k one open at the same time.

I use my computer to mostly game. I play some pretty intensive games like Battlefield 1 and it drops to about 40 frames on medium at 1440p and I want to play games like Dishonored 2 even though it has some optimization issues.

Oh I see. Thank you so much!

Yep, can confirm. My computer with a 970 struggles mightily at 1440 (remember, they really only have 3.5 GB of usable VRAM). Pop a 1060 into it (my brother has one), and it's pulling higher framerates.

BF1 is also one game that anything less than an i7 really does struggle with though.
