Is a strong graphics card worth it if you only have a 60hz monitor?

Let's say I have the gtx 1070 which can average above 60fps on most games these days. But what if I only have a 60hz monitor, is the card still worth it? I mean the monitor can only support up to 60hz which means only 60fps support (capped at 60fps? To my knowledge) but the gpu is averaging more than 60fps in most modern games these days. So is the performance of the card worth it?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

higher than 1070 would be too much if you're not planning to buy a new monitor, but 1070 or less should be good,
at least if you want to play new games as long as possible.

i suggest buying new parts only when you feel like you need new parts, since what today is pretty new(1070) is pretty high price and when you will actually need to upgrade it might be much cheaper.
also there is the whole fps debate , but pretty much if you have 60fps monitor and games run at 60 fps it's not as good as 60fps monitor and 144fps, hovewer for most people not much of a difference, if you play competitive fps you might consider better gpu
