I think I would like to stay with the i5 for the processor. I was also wondering if I could swap out the video card for the 1050 ti. Also would 450 W be enough power for this setup?

For a build like that is the 450watt psu more than enough, you could us a gtx 1070 with these parts and not have to worry.
Also will the gtx 1050 ti be fine as well, the RX 470 is just better, but with the gtx 1050 ti could you save some money.

a hard drive is like a record. a spinning disk with a read/write head. tried and true technology
an SSD is a thumb drive. no moving parts, and way way faster. newer. longevity concerns.
you need one or the other, most prefer having both.
