Finding it hard to choose between the 2 cpus mentioned in the title for my PC for gaming only. I have a gtx 970 and im in need of a good cpu to match with it. In my country total expense for both setups dont really differ that much, so i just want to know which is the overall better one for gaming. Not going to buy K processors because i dont overclock anyway. Any advice will do, thanks! :D

I wouldn't go for either, personally.

There's no point in getting the i5 6600, you may as well save some money and go with an i5-6500 or go with the 6600K.

And at the current moment, there's little to no benefit with an i7 while gaming, except on a few games, such as BF1.

I would go with an i5-6500 over those 2 CPUs.

is the difference between the 6500 and 6600 minimal? if i can get like 10 fps more from the 6600 i wouldnt mind spending extra, but if the only difference is around 1-5 fps then i guess i'll just go 6500

The difference is: the 6600 has an extra 100MHz base clock, which is probably about 1~ FPS, and an extra 300MHz on the boost clock, which is around 5~ FPS probably.

Therefore most people recommend the 6500 over the 6600, as the performance difference is, in reality, nothing.

i see. okay, 1 more question if you dont mind. Im currently using an amd 6600k cpu, and im not sure if my standards are just low or what, but tbh ive played some AAA titles at med - high settings and i got pretty decent fps. not 60 consistently, but definitely from the 30s to high 50s. If i purchase the i5 6500 how much improvement would i see exactly?

What games do you play exactly?

I have a similar build compared to the one you're looking at, and all games I play I get maximum, or close to maximum settings and at 60FPS without trouble.

well we have witcher 3, gta v, farcry 4, and AC syndicate.

Witcher runs smoothly - for the most part. I get a lot of fps drops in big cities (med/high settings) Gta v runs at around 40-50 fps at high settings with options like msaa, fxaa etc off. farcry 4 i think runs the smoothest for me at high settings and as for AC syndicate, well let's just say the game is quite unplayable for me :(

I'm looking to play games like the division and watchdogs 2 when i get my new cpu, will i be able to play those games at max settings with an i5 6500, gtx 970 and probably 8gb of ddr4 ram?

Well I can run GTA V on maximum settings at 60FPS, and it is really smooth. So my guess is that you will be able to as well.

My CPU is probably on par or really similar (Within 10%~) of the i5-6500.

I honestly just wanna play the latest AAA games and be ready for the ones that are yet to be released :( which one of the 2 do you think would be more suited for AAA games now, and AAA games 3-4 years from now?
