I bought an Asus ROG Strix 1080 A8G and its working fine, but i noticed it usually Idles at 49-51 C, is this normal?
Max Temp while gaming is usually around 68 C but sometimes spikes as high as 75 C
Ambient Temps are around 28-30 C

Next, fire up GPU Tweak II then go into professional mode (bottom-right button) where you'll see the Fan Speed (%) option. It'll be set to auto, but you can set a manual fixed frequency or select User Defined to customize the fan curve

like I said above

''The default User Define Setting is shown below: the fans switch on at 55.38C. We can set the fan curve to turn on earlier or later, bring the high-end max temp limit downward if necessary

ya, most of theses cards today have the silent / -0- fan thing where the fans don't kick in in till 60 c or how ever the manufacture has it set up

most just use a custom fan profile to override that then with a NVidia card anything lower the 85c is fine but cooler the card the better your not so bad if max is just 75c in spurts and 68c is average [opinion]

and a custom fan profile may make that a lot better

''Realistically you will struggle to keep the card below 75C and silent. That is a very low temperature for this type of graphics card. I have been running cards in the mid 80 C range for years and it does not effect the life of the cards''

Your GPU can sustain up to 90 C consistent load. Your card probably has a "0 dB" fan curve in the BIOS, which means that the card will not start up its fans until the GPU reaches 60 C. You can disable this in both the ASUS software for your card and the NVIDIA driver panel, if you want. It is perfectly normal for a card to be idling at 50 C.

thanks for the replies, im glad to know its normal. are there any advantages/disadvantages of setting custom fan curves? the lowest it will let me run at idle is 30% or should i just stick to auto.

???? I guess that's a end users preference and experience on what he feels is best ? as long as its running with in normal parameters should be fine

some guys just don't like there card starting off that hot and like the way it use to be with the fans cooling all the time and just set up there own fan profile .. your call
