Hello Tom's Hardwarians

I7-6700k cpu
Asus Z170-a mobo
Cooler Master EVO 212

MY temps have been excessively high with any CPU usage. When I first start my computer, before any programs really open, mainly Windows action center, it stays between 29-35 with the occasional spike in the 50s correlating with a spike in cpu usage.

When action center opens and other programs (CPU usage being around 12%), it shoots between the mid to high 60s - low 70s. I have used Prim95 version 26.6 and it will go to the low 80s. I have used both core temp, and CPU-Z to record voltage and CPU temp, as well as one other I cannot think of at this time.

So far, I have already reapplied thermal paste and reinstalled the CPU cooler on my CPU many times, installed the CPU on my friends PC and got the temps that he normally would get with the same CPU cooler. I have replaced my cooler and have tried installing it again. I have also went into the bios and restricted the max voltage to 1.2 disabling turbo boost.

I have NOT overclocked my CPU. I am now almost 100% sure it is not my cooler and it is not my voltage causing these temps.

I have posted this before and have tried various methods of applying thermal paste I have used the CPU cooler before on my i5-3750 and have had very good temps as well as using the cooler on my friends PC and receiving temps he has with his cooler. Also, I installed the cooler on my and my friends computers.

One thing, if it's even possible, it might be are my temps are not accurately being reported. I say this after physically feeling my cooler on my friends CPU at 60C vs my cooler on my CPU in the high 70s low 80s. My cooler, on my friends CPU, feels much hotter than mine; in fact, on my CPU, my cooler feels quite cold.

I'm thinking at this point it might be time to start blaming the MOBO or the CPU

If you got this far, THANKS SO MUCH for reading all of this lol

I sincerely appreciate all of your help and input.

How much thermal paste are you applying? There's been countless threads on a direct correlation between CPU temps and the amount of thermal paste being applied. Most think you need to slather on that stuff when in fact this makes it even worse for your CPU. You don't need much, the whole point of thermal paste is to conduct heat away and putting more of that stuff will essentially insulate it causing unnecessary spikes. The rule of thumb for an intel chip is slightly smaller than a pea size amount and spread that thin film across all edges, and test CPU temps again, good luck!

I have applied only the recommended pea sized amount of thermal paste and it does not spill over the sides of the cpu

Nope, as stated above, I installed this cooler on my friends computer yesterday, and received the temps he normally gets with his cooler, which is the same cooler btw.
