so i have a 2TB HDD with only 150gb of free space. i have space in my pc for 2 more HDD's and 2 SSD's. so what i want to do is get an SSD and move just the windows 10 OS to the SSD from my 2TB HDD. i have soooo many games and programs that are set up perfectly and idk if id be able to get it all working again since alot of it was done like 3 years ago. i just want to move the OS and drivers and certain programs (nvidia GeForce control panel, and other nessisary os programs) and then keep the rest of the data on the HDD. does anyone know how i can do this, without having issues like windows thinking its an unactivated copy of windows or something

Hey there, @Omninaut!

Unfortunately, when upgrading your primary storage you have only two options - either clone your previously booting HDD or you need to clean install the OS onto the new SSD. If you choose the latter, you will have to unplug the HDD from the system while Windows is installing, otherwise you are bound to encounter the so-called OS confusion. A clean install is the recommended way to go about your SSD because you will avoid the transferring of old redundant files. However, once the OS is up and running from the SSD, you still need to plug back the secondary HDD and re-format it to get rid of the old OS and installs. If you choose to go with cloning, you can simply find a cloning utility that will allow you to transfer just the selected partitions or files onto the SSD. However, you will still need to consider re-formatting and re-installing all the software from the HDD for optimal performance. If your 2 TB HDD is a WD drive, you could try Manual cloning via the Acronis True Image WD edition software.

Hope this helps you. Good luck! :)
