PSU: Corsair AX1200I
MB: MSI Z97 5 GAMING
GPU: GTX 970
CPU: I7 4790K with water cooling.

Hi so I was playing overwatch as this happened. Im guessing this was a result of overheating as I have stock fans and one of them died recently.

I just heard the computer making a buzz sound and computer shut down then a burning smell start coming off. I couldnt tell if it was coming out of psu or not. Afterwards conputer won't turn back on and the psu makes a clicking noise upon pressing the power button on the case.

But I took my psu out and did its self test ( this model of corsair comes with a self test functionality ) and it passed the test. Not sure if I should do the paper clip test as well?

I'm trying to figure out if this was my motherboard or my psu. Are there any ways for me to test the motherboard? I do not see any burning stops on the motherboard ( I havent checked the back of it yet )

Update!: I took my gpu off the motherboard and then the computer turned on. I even used a different 16slot and power cable but the computer won't turn on with gpu connected to the power supply.

I would really appreciate any suggestions. As I wanna find out the issue first before I RMA anything.

Thanks!

I did, still didn't turn on . And I actually used my brother's gpu to test if the motherboard is fine and I even used the same power cables as I did for my own gpu and the conputer turned on just fine.

Is my gpu fried? And shouldnt the computer turn on anyway?

oh okay. well I guess I still have warranty on it.

question tho, luckily my motherboard comes with an intergrated gpu and I was able to boot into windows 10 with it but not on windows 7 ( I am running dual boot windows 10 and 7 ). when I selected my ssd for boot which my windows 7 is installed on, the boot image showed up and then it never went past that window. it kept on restarting. but as soon as I choose my hdd with windows 10 on it, it booted without issues.

this seems very weird to me but is this because of AHCI? I also installed windows 10 with AHCI so that shouldn't be a problem right?
