Hey everyone,

I have built my first PC and I was wondering about the ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard (the one I used for my build).

Apparently it automatically overclocks your CPU and my question is how can I prevent this as I want just the stock clocks.

Cheers

Hi Mate,

I don't think it 'automatically' overclocks your cpu. There's a feature on it which you can use to overclock the cpu for you without having to manually clock it yourself.

It's basically a mild overclock.

So in my example I have an MSI Krait 7170a gaming 3x which can overclock a i7 6700k from 4.2MHz to 4.4MHz. You just go into the BIOS if you want to enable it, but it is switched off by default. It's not really reccomended because it tends to put way more voltage than what is actually required.

Best thing to do is to use CPU-Z and check what your cpu is running at currently. If it's at stock speeds (which I imagine it should be), then you're golden and don't have to worry about anything else.

Let us know how you get on.
